Fulani Herdsmen attacks on Akoko-Edo Local Government area: We outrightly condemn it
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of humankind”* – Mahatma Gandhi.
As an organization with a supreme mandate to speak as a formidable voice for Afenmai people and the land, where and if necessary, we deem it appropriate to place on record our position on the recent threats to the security of lives and property of the globally known peaceful and hospitable people of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area and, by extension, Afenmai land in Edo State, Nigeria. We outrightly condemn the recent attacks on some parts of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area which included Imoga, Igarra, Okpe and Ikpeshi communities by some bloody-thirsty miscreants believed to be Fulani buckaroos.
It is, indeed, sad and very worrisome that Akoko-Edo Local Government Area has been unceremoniously enveloped by gross darkness orchestrated by panics following the incessant attacks by some unruly Fulani rapscallions which, to a large extent, has brought the socio-economic activities in the area to the lowest ebb.
However, as a body of Afenmai sons and daughters who believe in the adage of Audre Lorde, “Silence will not protect you”, we wish to applaud the various community leaders who intelligently deployed their various vigilante groups for being so proactive to awake to their collective responsibility to fish out these evil perpetrators in our land. We wish to particularly extol His Royal Highness, Oba Okhishimede Eshimokhai Idogu III, JP, OON, the Olokpe of Okpe Kingdom and his vigilante groups who put their lives on the line by nabbing nine of the Fulani scallywags. Our kudos also go to AfemaiToday, the people’s most favorite online media channel, and other media outfits for their excellent and consistent reportages on this all-important issue.
At this juncture, we wish to assure our people that they are not alone in this ongoing war against these common enemies of our highly blessed land. Our great body, Afenmai World Congress (AWC) is fully behind them in the fight to sustain the uncommon peace and hospitality which Afenmai land is noted for globally.
We wish to emphatically use this golden medium to draw the immediate attention of Edo State Government, all the security agencies and community leaders in the state to deploy all the available security machinery for the maximum protection of the lives and property of the entire citizenry. All hands must be on the deck to wade off further infiltration of our great state by Fulani hoodlums.
God bless Afenmai land!
God bless Edo State!!
God bless Nigeria!!!
