Fulani Herdsmen Attacks In Igiode, Weppa Wano, Etsako East Lga: We Call For Action
The Afenmai World Congress (AWC) condemned in the strong term the recent attack on farmers in Igiode, Weppa Wano, Etsako East LGA of Edo State. This unwholesome attack visited on the innocent farmers by Fulani herdsmen reechoes the deafening cry suffered by our vulnerable farmers which is yet to be fully addressed. This recent attack came is a follow-up to the kidnapping of four people in Igarra, near-fatal attack on a farmer at Ojah, vandalization of farms in Okpella, invasion of schools by cattle in
Auchi to name a few. The attacks are assuming dangerous dimension thereby calling for urgent intervention to nip the unexpected conflagration because of reprisal repercussions. It is saddening nonetheless that farmers who are supposed to be cherished for are left to wallow in their pool of blood by strangers who have shown sufficient accommodation and uncommon hospitality.
This is not in any way saying that all the Fulani herdsmen are killers or murderers, but the challenge is that those hiding under cover of herders to perpetuate this dastardly act must be made to face the full wrath of the law. These attacks are becoming commonplace, from Akoko Edo to Etsako, our people have been attacked.
The earlier their sponsors and backers are exposed the better. It is however painful that ordinary farmers have been denied their rights to farming owing to the evil intention of this myopic elements. Why should a farmer be attacked? Why is it taking this long to arrest and fully prosecute these fugitives?
The authorities saddled with the responsibility to secure and protect lives must wake up and address this crude level of wastage of lives.
All lives are important. Those made to provide food for the communities must be protected against these bloodthirsty vampires. We sympathize with the families and loved ones who may have been compelled to accept beyond their imagination the untimely death of their husbands, fathers, and brothers; cut down by suspected killer herdsmen. It is hard musing over the death without ruminating through excruciating pains and thoughts.
But, we crave the family to accept the sudden passage of their beloved breadwinner. Again, we call on the Edo state government and the state House of Assembly to expedite action on passing and implementing the bill on ranching to forestall incessant attacks on our communities by these herdsmen. In addition, we are calling on the state and local authorities to immediately protect our people from the ravaging onslaught of the herdsmen on our people by:
It is time to join hands to ensure we have an effective plan/strategy to address these attacks which is a major leeway to check the activities of this strange killer criminal elements in our communities. God bless Afenmai land! God bless Edo State!! God bless Nigeria!!!
